austin street retreat

Believe it or not this sweet little town goes back to 1846 when it was settled by a group of German settlers lead by Baron Otfried van Meusebach who had an awesomely long red beard.  Shortly after settling the beautiful hill country land, a treaty was made with a tribe of Commanche indians who appropriately named Meusebach El Sol Colorado (or the red sun).

Fredericksburg is the home of Texas German, a dialect spoken by the first settlers that refused to learn English.
