I can't believe how many locals and visitors alike have not been to Cross Mountain. It is such a fun outing for all ages that is literally a stones throw from main street and delivers some pretty outstanding views. It also is chalk full of some good ol' German history. Before the settlers had arrived it was an Indian lookout point and soon after the Germans made Fredericksburg their home a new cross was placed on the mountain top in 1849. The newer metal cross that lights up in the night was put up in 1946 and it really makes for a special spot:).
Mornings and sunsets are when I would recommend taking the 20 minute hike up...but anytime would be fun to enjoy the beautiful views.
